Starting Year 3
Starting Year 3 is such a special milestone in your child’s journey, as they move into the Junior Department and begin the next exciting stage of their learning. This year brings new opportunities for them to grow in confidence, develop greater independence, and build on the skills they have already worked so hard to achieve. They will be introduced to new subjects, experiences, and challenges, all designed to inspire curiosity and a love of learning. Most importantly, we will ensure that every child feels happy, supported, and valued as part of our classroom community.
Morning Drop-Off: Children should be dropped off at the green gate. They may come into school any time after 8:30am, and the register will be taken promptly at 8:45am.
Home Time: School finishes at 3:15pm each day and children will be collected from the green gate.
Snacks, Lunch and Drinks: Please ensure your child brings their own healthy snack for morning break and a named water bottle each day. School dinners are available at a cost of £3.25 per day.
PE: PE will take place on Monday afternoon (with myself) and Tuesday afternoon (with Sheree White). Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit on these days. PE will mainly be outside so please ensure your child has joggers and a warm sweater / hoody in the colder months.
Resources and Belongings: We kindly ask that children do not bring pencil cases, as all resources are provided in class. Please make sure all belongings are clearly named to help us return any lost items quickly.
Homework and Learning at Home: Homework will be set on Seesaw every Friday. Spellings: Spellings will also be sent via Seesaw on Fridays. Your child will be given a new login for Spelling Shed, which has lots of fun, interactive games to help them learn their spellings.
Times Tables: Children need to complete a minimum of 15 minutes of TT Rockstars each week. This is a magical programme and, if they put the time into it, you will be impressed with how quickly they learn their times tables.
Reading and Reading Records: In Year 3, we encourage children to share their enthusiasm for reading and to become more discerning in their choice of books. They will be encouraged to share their reading experiences with others. Please support us by encouraging your child to read widely, and by discussing what they are reading with them. Research shows that children who receive this support make better than average progress. The school will supply your child with reading books, and they may also choose their own. Please record the reading your child does at home (book title, pages read, and any relevant comments) in their Reading Record. We would expect children to have read their book aloud to an adult before it is changed. Please ensure they read at least four times a week. Reading Records are a two-way document, so feel free to write comments or concerns. Please remind your child to show us any notes you write.
