It is important that even in Year 6 children are reading regularly at home. We have asked the children to read a minimum of 4 times a week for a minimum of 15 minutes at a time. It is still great for parents/carers to listen to their child read at this age. When listening to your child read, you can help by asking them questions about the text to develop their understanding of the text. As a school we are using VIPERS to teach the different reading strands. Take a look at the information below to learn more and about how to help your child at home.
When you are listening to your child read at home, you can ask questions to help develop their understanding of the text. Take a look at some example questions you could ask. The children also have these stuck in their reading journals.
